Basketball Camps

Engaging Youth Through Sports!

We have developed Spirit of Hoops basketball training camps for Native American boys and girls 6-17 years of age and all athletic skill levels.  Our program is dedicated to improving self-esteem and emphasizes team participation and a sense of importance and belonging.

Basketball is one of the most popular sports on every American Indian Reservation in the United States today.

Mountain Chief Institute uses basketball as a vehicle to impact a youth culture to ensure that Native children grow up believing that they are valued and important to their community. Our camps encourage the skills, self-discipline and resources to succeed in whatever the youngster chooses to pursue.  These qualities can be taught through a positive athletic culture.

While the immediate goal is improving basketball skills, the overall purpose is to help youth develop values and habits needed to be successful on the court, in the classroom, and in life.

Message from Paula:

SPIRIT of HOOPS Basketball Camp last week was a sensational opportunity for youth to develop a new or renewed interest and practice a wide range of Basketball skills.  We had #26 children and youth attend the two day camp. It was really good to see them moving and working out!! Kudo’s to parents that encouraged their children to attend.  We hope to have another camp either in the Spring or Summer.  Dolly M. Beverly, Kim T. Emily W. Lydia L. just to name a few!

On Sept. 29 and 30, Taos Pueblo will celebrate the Pueblo’s patron saint, St. Jerome (San Geronimo), with our "San Geronimo Eve Vespers" and "San Geronimo Day."
