GENERAL PURPOSE:
Performs water testing and maintain proper levels of chemical additives in the water supply.
This position description may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found or assigned to this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Monitors water quality and makes chemical feed adjustments as needed.
Calibrates and maintains online instrumentation.
Inventories and maintains supply of chemicals including Chlorine, NaOH, Lime, Polymer, Ferric Chloride and Fluoride.
Maintains proper amount of chemicals in the water supply.
Performs preventative maintenance on all well houses, valves and pumps.
Performs water, water tank and sewer line inspections.
Ensures cleanliness of facilities.
Assists with water and sewer line repairs.
Test water for chlorine residual, alkalinity, hardness, turbidity, fluoride, iron, and perform other analysis of the water as directed.
Perform regular maintenance at the water towers, keep clean, read numbers and replace bulbs as needed.
Assists with compiling, analyzing, and computing collected data.
Establishes, maintains, and updates files, databases, records, and/or other documents; develops and maintains data, and performs routine analyses and calculations in the processing of data for recurring internal reports.
Ensures all equipment is in safe operating condition. Clean and decontaminates gear and equipment.
Prepares or assists with the preparation of scheduled and/or ad hoc statistical and narrative reports; performs basic information gathering and analysis and/or forecasting, as specifically directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED, plus one year experience as a Water Operator. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Education and experience in advance mathematics, basic chemistry, laboratory and computer skills preferred. Valid New Mexico driver’s license with ability to meet Pueblo’s liability insurance requirements and maintain eligibility for insurance. Must be able to pass drug test, physical, and background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of Federal, State and agency laws, rules and regulations governing environmental laws and regulations.
Knowledge of the techniques, methods and devices used to obtain samples for testing.
Knowledge of emergency and hazard response procedures and protocols.
Knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health standards.
Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.
Skill is safely operating equipment.
Database skills.
Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
Ability to work extended hours, various work schedules and to travel occasionally.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
Ability to operate and maintain various equipment, tools and use proper safety methods.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms above shoulders; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is regularly performed outdoors where exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts and mists may occur. Prolonged standing and walking may be on uneven surfaces or unstable ground. Situations where safety-toe shoes, safety goggles, gloves, protective face shields, or hardhats are needed may occur. Travel may be required. Evening and/or weekend work may be required.
