JOB TITLE: Help Desk Technician

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Under direct supervision, installs, configures, maintains, tests and repairs systems and networks. Utilizes basic technical knowledge to provide first-level technical support to Taos Pueblo departments and staff, as well support IT initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responds in-person or remotely to technical inquiries submitted via Help Desk ticking system, over phone, or by chat; conducts follow-up with employees to ensure issues are resolved.
Performs basic and routine problem solving and assistance on various software applications and hardware systems for department users.
Provides individual instruction and/or training to users on new or updated technologies, software, equipment, and applications; guides users through step-by-step problem solving on technical issues.
Conducts routine technical assistance and maintenance duties, such as ensuring daily back-ups function properly and restoring data from back-ups, as needed.
Sets up new computers, installs and configures software applications and upgrades, creates new user accounts and e-mails, and resets user passwords; deploys, wipes and re-images computers.
Monitors and troubleshoots proactive tasks and alerts issued by vendors.
Escalates issues that cannot be resolved at the entry-level support tier to appropriate technicians, specialists, or vendors, in accordance with established department policies and protocols.
Reads, analyzes and interprets technical instruction manuals and guides.
Documents information for incident tracking and maintains inventory levels for hardware, equipment and related peripherals.
Assists with the review, evaluation and recommendation of solutions relating to hardware and software acquisitions, network updates or departmental procedural improvements.
Participates in the implementation of technology projects, to include researching and recommending new technologies, conducting integration testing, etc.
Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to technology, equipment, applicable laws, regulations, standards and/or systems.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED and six (6) months job-related experience. Certification in CompTIA A+ required within six (6) months of hire. Must be able to pass drug test and background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies.

Familiarity with Taos Pueblo and its cultural beliefs, customs, and traditions.
Knowledge of a wide range of computer systems, software, applications, hardware networking and communications.
Familiarity with current technological developments/trends.
Ability to perform preventive maintenance on systems, software, applications, hardware, networking and communication technologies.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a wide range of audiences.
Ability to clearly articulate and explain technical information to non-technical individuals.
Ability to determine computer problems and to coordinate hardware, software and/or network solutions.
Capacity to analyze and resolve basic computer problems.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Skilled in delivering quality customer service.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; to reach with hands or arms; and to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job, including close vision.

Work is regularly performed in an office setting with a low noise level.
