JOB TITLE: Finance Specialist

REPORTS TO: Accounting Specialist

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Accounting Specialist, performs a variety of accounting duties that
range in level of complexity such as managing payables and receivables, to more complex duties
such as reporting, preparing budgets, journal entries or reconciling accounts for Timekeeping,
Payroll, Accounts Payable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides customer service, counter and phone support for both internal and external customers.
Processes timekeeping edits, Cross Trains with payroll, and assist payroll with all employee
benefits.
Process purchase orders daily, processes invoices and vendor check run as necessary.
Verifies, allocates and posts details of business transactions to subsidiary accounts in journals or
computer files from documents.
Ensures accurate data entry and maintains accurate computerized financial records.
Assist with billing and reconciliation.
Prepares bank deposits and record to the general ledger all funds received accurately and in a
timely manner.
Assist with and reconcile all travel authorizations including registration, hotel, flight and
advances.
Cross trains, learns and assists Accounts Payable and Payroll with daily activities.
Prepares financial reports for funding agencies and helps assure that reporting deadlines are
made for contracts and grants. Ensures accuracy of data and compliance with regulations.
Reconciles and maintains general ledger accounts as assigned by the Accounting Specialist, CFO,
and Tribal Controller.
Drafts and maintains standard forms including accounting and general office.
Participates, creates agendas, and take minutes at assigned Taos Pueblo employer committees.
Assists with Special Projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field. Two or more years of
progressive accounting or business administration experience. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Demonstrated spreadsheet and word processing software skills to quantify and illustrate routine
financial reports, comparisons, impacts and/or projections. Must be able to pass drug test and
background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of standard accounting principles, procedures, methods and applications.
Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial, accounting, or inventory
applications.
Knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and
Governmental Accounting Standards
Ability to operate in an ethical manner including following all Taos Pueblo policies and
procedures relating to cash transactions, handling, tracking, and proper behavior between
staff and Tribal Government.
Ability to plan, prioritize, set goals, establish standards, coordinate tasks, show concern for
deadlines, and track progress with respect to personal performance.
Ability to identify, systematically collect, and organize information for use by self or others in
an organization.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing compliance information,

Skill in operating business computers and office machines.

recommendations. Ability to set up and maintain financial accounts and ledgers.
Ability to prepare financial reports.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; walk; use hands
to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or
hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance. The employee occasionally is
required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific
vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is regularly performed in an office setting with a low noise level. Evening and/or weekend
work may be required.
