JOB TITLE: War Chief Finance Clerk

REPORTS TO: Financial Specialist

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Performs a variety of clerical and bookkeeping/accounting activities in support of the accounting department.
This position description may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found or assigned to this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Processes payment for payroll, employee benefit and 401K transactions accurately and in a timely manner in compliance with the Department of Labor and Taos Pueblo policies.
Processes payment for purchase orders, invoices, loans, statements, vouchers, and/or other check requests.
Deposits and records to the general ledger all funds received accurately and in a timely manner.
Processes and reconciles all travel authorizations including registration, hotel, flight and advances.
Maintains all accounting files in compliance with record retention guidelines in a simple auditable form including W-4 and W-9 maintenance.
Keeps CFO and TOTGO Accounting Supervisor informed and up-to-date on tasks, progress, or projects.
Resolves routine administrative problems and answers inquiries concerning activities and operations of department.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED and one year accounting experience. Associates Degree in Accounting or related field preferred. Excellent communication and computer skills. Must be able to pass drug test and background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of accounting procedures and financial systems.
Knowledge of cash management principles and/or procedures.
Knowledge of computerized accounting, bookkeeping practices, and record keeping procedures, as well as appropriate local, state, and federal regulations and requirements.
Knowledge of use and apply mathematical techniques, processes, and concepts to understand and solve problems.
Skill in working effectively with Tribal Government, Tribal Members and other Taos Pueblo entities to resolve common issues or problems as well as listening to and seeking others’ perspective on how to complete assignments.
Spreadsheet and Word Processing software skills to quantify and illustrate routine financial reports, comparisons, impacts and/or projections.
Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
Skill in account balancing.
Ability to identify, systematically collect, and organize information for use by self or others in an organization.
Ability to effectively communicate compliance information, policies and/or procedures in a manner that is professional and easily understood.
Ability to develop a clear understanding of Tribal Government needs and goals while maintaining clear communication with Tribal Government regarding meeting their expectations.
Ability to follow though and respond to Tribal Government requests and inform them of action taken in a courteous, professional manner.
Ability to be able to plan, prioritize, set goals, establish standards, coordinate tasks, show concern for deadlines, and track progress with respect to personal performance.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance. The employee occasionally is required to stand. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is regularly performed in an office setting with a low noise level. Evening and/or weekend work may be required.
